古根付の木の方向は垂直方向に使われているものが多い。底面に木口が観察できる平坦な場所が多い。主に木口面を観察する。根付によっては、木の方向が水平に使われているものもある。
In many of the old netsuke, trees are used vertically. You can see suitable flat surface of koguchi face on the bottom of netsuke. We observe mainly the surface of the koguchi face of tree for identification. Some netsuke uses the tree horizontally.
